Papa of Pop Art Born in August
Artist Andy Warhol, born August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is perhaps best known for helping to establish the Pop Art Movement in American art. Pop Art takes items from everyday life, such as Warhol’s famous images of Campbell’s soup cans, and presents these simple objects in vibrant colors and patterns.
