It’s Franchise Friday!
This Franchise Friday is dedicated to Rockville MD resident, Nancy Delasos, who has owned and operated Abrakadoodle of Montgomery County since August 2012. Nancy and her team of talented teachers partner with local schools, rec centers and other community sites to offer a variety of high quality art programming, including after-school classes, workshops, summer camps, birthday parties, in-school field trips and adult art experiences! Her classes are available in the communities of Bethesda, Cabin John, Chevy Chase, Glen Echo, Kensington, Potomac, and Rockville. Nancy, who has a degree in Art History from George Washington University in Washington, DC, spent her career in IT, Telecommunications and Education Reform before launching into the world of art education with Abrakadoodle. Of the opportunity to educate children, Nancy said, “I believe that Abrakadoodle can really make a positive difference in the lives of children. It is a dynamic, fun program, and it does so much more than entertain. My [son] Christopher test drove an Abrakadoodle art class, and he thought it was fantastic!” When Nancy hangs up her Abrakadoodle apron each day, she often enjoys quilting. She shared, “Ever since I was small, I’ve enjoyed putting the patterns and pieces of fabric together to create designs on a larger scale. I’m fascinated by combining and recombining the colors, shapes and blocks into new forms.” Nancy said she puts her experiences as a quilter to use in Abrakadoodle – in the collecting, sorting and cutting of materials and in the interpretation of many of the lessons themselves. One of her favorite lessons is “Klimt Baby Doodle,” which she put to good use with a group project for a 3rd grade class to make a baby quilt for their teacher. Nancy volunteers in her community and enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Michael and son, Christopher.
