Summer Camp Adventures Can Foster Fun & Learning
While it may seem like children have just settled into their back-to-school routine, parents are already asking themselves, “Is it time to think about summer camp?” For parents, making choices for summer camp programs for their children can be daunting! There are a number of options and sometimes some concerns. Is my rising kindergartener ready for a camp experience? Will my school ager make friends and be engaged in the camp activities? Will the summer camp my child participates in help avoid the “summer slide?”
Summer camps are wonderful opportunities for children to step into new social groups and make new friends! For our youngest campers it provides a “preview” of what their kindergarten program will be like by offering an overall structure to the camp with guided instruction from teachers. The activities should strengthen important “readiness skills,” while insuring a fun learning experience. For our youngest campers, as well as our school agers, summer camps should provide opportunities for children to explore special interests, develop new skills and build self-confidence!
Imagine a group of children designing their own Amusement Park! Did you know that a Merry-Go-Round is a carousel that originated from medieval games? How about using some engineering skills to build your own Ferris Wheel? What about entering a world of dinosaurs? What fun to build your own dinosaurs and learn how paleontologists study fossils! These are just some of the camp themes that will be offered through our Abrakadoodle camps this summer. We see summer as a great opportunity for children to explore new relationships while learning new things in a fun, safe and creative environment.
